In and Out of the Aldgate

Aldgate is the interface between the business centre of the City and the residential East End, but this is one of many boundaries encountered on this circular tour. Aldgate’s story includes physical boundaries, such as the Roman wall and Aldgate Pump, as well as abstract boundaries such as those represented by poverty and race. Also it’s a place of crossing boundaries through travel, embodied in the Roman Road out of London, St Botolph’s Church and the Metropolitan Railway.
