CITY BLOCKS by Astrain Studio Architects
Inspired by children’s play blocks, Astrain Studio Architect’s City Blocks aim to bring a sense of youthful playfulness to the City. Flexible in their arrangement, these colourful interlocking geometric benches are tiled to help establish a human domestic scale within an outdoor setting.
The goal of the Astrain Studio Architects practice is to gain a deep understanding of the client needs and aspirations and through rigorous design investigations, to translate them into carefully considered designs elegantly and joyfully.
Sponsors include Grestec Tiles, Chairman’s Network and Asesoria.
This bench is one of five new benches across Cheapside and the result of a design competition organised by the London Festival of Architecture, the City of London Corporation and Cheapside Business Alliance. Each bench showcases one of London’s brilliant emerging architects and designers and is a public gift that help the City remain an exceptional place to live, work and visit.
