City Benches: Love without Borders

Love without Borders by Armor Gutierrez Rivas, Atelier La Juntana

Never before so many hard-borders have separated countries around the world, making the current count the highest in history of human kind. The installation aims to challenge the image of physical borders as boundaries, transforming the notion of barrier into a window for social interaction. While the external profile takes inspiration from well-known walls around the world, the heart-shape opening promotes flashing cross-boundary encounters. Love without Borders was made with the help of Shadbolt, Kohn Pedersen Fox and University of East London.

This bench is one of five new benches across Cheapside and the result of a design competition organised by the London Festival of Architecture, the City of London Corporation and Cheapside Business Alliance. Each bench showcases one of London’s brilliant emerging architects and designers and is a public gift that help the City remain an exceptional place to live, work and visit.
