Open Call: RA Lego Challenge

NEWS |

One of the London Festival of Architecture’s perennial favourites – the RA Lego Architecture Challenge – is back for 2019! Taking place inside the Royal Academy of Arts’ new rooms and open to public as part of the LFA2019 programme, the event will see architects go head-to-head to construct the most innovative and imaginative ‘boundaries’ project.

We’re looking for architecture practices to take part in this amazing family-friendly event, which will take place at the Royal Academy on the afternoon of 23 June. Last year saw Hawkins\Brown, OMMX and The Manser Practice battle it out with crazy and colourful Lego creations, and this year we’re once again looking for practices that can entertain and inspire with one of the world’s most ubiquitous and popular building materials.

The four chosen teams of architects will be joined by students who are part of the attRAct programme at the RA to work together to develop a response to the brief and construct a model (or series of models), given two hours with 15,000 LEGO bricks of all different shapes and sizes! The attRAct programme offers A-level art students the chance to engage with art and architecture through a specially designed programme of workshops, exhibition tours, studio visits, mentoring sessions, and careers advice.

Are you ready to take on the challenge? If you are interested in taking part in this year’s RA Lego Architecture Challenge, complete the simple expression of interest form [here]. Selected teams will be informed in April.
