Object of "waterlines" workshop are the architectural, urbanistic, technological and iconographic testimonies of the ability of a people in not giving up in front of the boundaries that could constitute a limit, a standstill to their own growth.
Over the centuries the British people and the City of London, thanks to their skills, have being turning the boundaries of their country, carved in water, into a strength: water, in the form of a river or an expanse of the sea, has become modified lines, interpreted in order to overcome physical and immaterial obstacles at the same time. These changes have allowed to overcome a limit and to address to the world through movements, actions, businesses, explorations, confrontation and clashes.
The proposed workshop is divided into an initial phase of study of the signs, within the city of London, of this identity: ports, docks, warehouses, bridges, river transport systems and so on.
The second phase deals with the interpretation of these signs through images (photographs, drawings, sketches, and iconic representations) and finally the third phase proposes the recomposition of them in expressions of visual communication such as videos, posters, graphic elaborations.
The participants, max 40 people, will work individually or in small groups and will be followed by professors of Unige.
