The Wooden Parliament by Finsa

The Wooden Parliament is a temporary wooden pavilion designed by Spanish architects Cristina Díaz Moreno and Efrén Ga Grinda of the Madrid-based practice AMID.cero9 in collaboration with BAC ecg / evolve structural consultants. Supported by the Spanish timber company Finsa, and Coal Drops Yard and organised by the Museum of Architecture, The Wooden Parliament is an open air pavilion 7m in height made of supporting wooden structures with internal seats arranged horizontally forming inclined stands facing each other. A series of blown up wooden knots cover the pavilion following the precise geometry of the wooden structure.
It has been conceived as a displacement of a private interior in a public space: an immersive room wrapped with an ornamented dress.
The pavilion responds to this year’s LFA theme of “Boundaries” by proposing a space of dialogue and negotiation through which different viewpoints, ideas and relationships are forged. It seeks to articulate the way architecture can serve as a mediator in the process of creation of individual and collective identities, by responding to and challenging the understanding of public space in London today.
The pavilion will be used as a platform for a series of events, including live musical performances, drop-in drawing workshops, children’s workshops and more organised by MoA throughout the month of June, further encouraging the public’s engagement and participation with architecture.
The pavilion will be free and open to the public.
