Walthamstow based artist Vasu Sellamuthu activates the courtyard space of Wood Street Studios by inviting visitors to paint stones and stack dream homes of their own, intrigued to see the city it might produce. Stone balancing is a universal act in which rocks are balanced on top of one another without the use of adhesives or supports. On the grounds of Hindu temples in India, rocks are similarly stacked as a wish granting ritual, as it is believed the person who does this will construct a house. Through this participatory installation, Sellamuthu reflects on the ideal of home ownership as integral to the collective aspirations of our society and the current climate of building to meet a housing shortage in London.
