St. Michael’s, a beautiful and historic church in the heart of the Square Mile, offers you a tour of the architectural and decorative interest of the church on Mondays 10th, 17th and 24th of June, at 2:15pm.
St. Michael’s has always been known as a Wren Church and although Wren’s office seems to have been involved, the actual architect was Nicholas Young. Of special interest is the “lavish scheme of embellishment" which Sir George Gilbert Scott was commissioned to carry out in the late 1850’s.He employed the woodcarver, William Gibbs Rogers, who was responsible for the outstanding pew ends, the award-winning eagle and the intricate pulpit.
The upper half of the Tower is by Nicholas Hawksmoor.
