Wood Street Studios is the home of the Wood Street Walls street art project and provides workspace for artists and designers, as well as a base for community workshops. The studio is in the Manual Instruction Centre, a small Victorian school building which sits on a corner site surrounded by a courtyard and community garden. Wood Street Walls hopes to expand their studios into the courtyard space, providing more affordable workspace and opportunities for the community.
In this workshop, for young people aged 12-16 years, join the Wood Street Studios team to design your own architectural project - decide what you would use the courtyard for, create a design for the space and produce a model of your building. Local architects, Baxter Studio, will run the workshop, explaining how architects think about the context and boundaries of a site and turn ideas into buildings.
After the workshop all the designs created will be put on display in the studio, along with the proposed designs for the courtyard.
(Please note: one parent per child is welcome to attend if they wish).
