Measuring Silences

‘Measuring Silences’ is a solo exhibition by David Kendall exploring how photography and the practice of walking generate sensory experiences in the built environment. Artworks investigate how visual urbanism reveals spatial politics and ocular boundaries, thus producing images that respond to architectural change, collective memory and migration inside and outside cities.

David Kendall's practice explores how spatial, economic and design initiatives, as well as participatory practices, combine to encourage social and spatial interconnections or dissonance in cities. Kendall utilises visual archives, mapping, events and embodied experiences to activate and generate his photographic, film and site-specific projects. His photographs, spatial research and collaborative projects have been exhibited and presented at festivals, museums, cultural and academic institutions including: The British Library, UK, Jüdisches Museum Berlin, Germany, Centro Cultural Manuel Gómez Morín, Querétaro, Mexicó, Tate Britain, UK, The Photographers’ Gallery, UK, SAVVY Contemporary, Berlin, Germany, documenta 14, Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Oxford, UK, Stockholm University, Sweden and Culturgest, Lisbon, Portugal. Kendall is a visiting research fellow within the Centre for Urban and Community Research, Goldsmiths, University of London, UK. www.david-kendall.co.uk
