Design vs. Delivery of WELL Shell and Core Projects

The International WELL Building Standard has scientifically related the buildings where we live, work and relax with human health and productivity. Businesses have been increasingly adopting the system to cultivate spaces that promote active lives and wellness. Whilst the standard sounds logical and straightforward, there is only limited knowledge to design and deliver it in practice and achieve certification. This is even rare in ‘Shell and Core’ projects which is now increasingly becoming a common ask in the UK. Our speakers - Eleanor Stewart (Arup) and Mara Bravo (Mara Bravo Architects) - have delivered WELL projects and currently working on quite a few others. The examples will include various scales of projects and how the industry and business is transforming. They will share the challenges faced on site and why collaboration is key for successfully delivering a WELL project. WELL is the first evidence-based measuring and certification system that monitors health, well-being and productivity of the occupants in an operational building. It measures attributes of a building by looking at seven main areas – air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort and mind.
