Contested Legacies: New Conversations – showcasing the creative re-use of old buildings

Join us for a fascinating evening exploring the potential for creative re-use of challenging and contested historic sites.

The winners of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings Philip Webb Award architecture competition will present their schemes - for Armagh Gaol, Chatterley Whitfield Colliery and Bristol Floating Harbour - within a discussion of the SPAB's approach to new design in historic contexts. The award brief challenges early-career architects to revitalise a historic building which has decayed or been neglected, but which can be repaired and adapted for a sympathetic new use, through a combination of careful repair to existing fabric and a significant element of contemporary new work.

The event includes presentation of the Philip Webb Award winners' certificates, exhibition of the winning schemes, and an informal drinks reception.
