Re-Imagining the Bounds

As part of the London Festival of Architecture, St Lawrence Jewry is hosting an evening looking at the renewal and refurbishment of the church fabric as well as an exploration of the historic boundaries of St Lawrence Jewry.

As one of the most historically interesting churches in the City of London, St Lawrence Jewry has had a long and turbulent history: originally constructed in the twelfth century, the medieval church was destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666. Rebuilt by Christopher Wren in the Classical style, the church suffered heavy damage during the Blitz and was later restored to its present state. Sir John Betjeman described the church as 'very splendid'.

This will be followed by an optional walk tracing the boundaries of St Lawrence Jewry. The boundaries of historic wards and parishes may be hard to find, but if you know where to look there are visible clues throughout the City of London.
